A comprehensive series of studies on the faecal degradation of tiamulin, on plant growth, on potential toxicity to fish and on Gram +ive and Gram -ive soil bacteria, showed no adverse effects.
There are no known adverse environmental consequences following the feeding of pigs with diets containing Tiamutin. Tiamutin is excreted via the faeces and rapidly bio-degraded. The maximum possible levels in the soil have no known effect on soil biology or plant growth and are non-toxic to fish, daphnia and algae.
