Tiamutin is a pleuromutilin antibiotic, developed, manufactured and marketed exclusively for animal health by Novartis Animal Health Inc.
It has been developed expressly for use in animals and is not, unlike tylosin and lincomycin, related to or identical to human-use medicinal antibiotics and does not select for cross-resistance to human-use antibiotics (as noted by the EU’s Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Products in their ‘Report on Antibiotic Resistance in the EU associated with Therapeutic Use of Veterinary Medicines’, July 1999).
Given today’s increasing concerns regarding antibiotic use, this makes Tiamutin the ideal choice for disease therapy and control and the prudent choice for today’s progressive pig producers.
