Mixed infections of PCS with other intestinal bacterial pathogens e.g. Lawsonia intracellularis, the cause of ileitis, are common. When they occur the pathological changes in the intestinal tract are more severe and pigs take longer to recover. PCS and ileitis infections both respond well to Tiamutin medication and in such mixed infections the productivity benefits are significant.
